Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) acknowledged Wednesday night during a debate among the candidates for mayor of Los Angeles that her sense of physical safety in the city has dropped from a “10/10” in March to a “5/5″ today. 10”, after the burglary of her home.
Billionaire real estate developer Rick Caruso, who was second only to Bath in the primaries, responded: “You’re worried about your kids going to school. I don’t want to give my kids a ‘5’ and say, ‘Okay, Your chances of success are 50/50.'”
Crime is one of the main issues in the election, along with homelessness — although Bass, like other Democrats, has used the abortion issue to motivate voters against Caruso, a former Republican who used to Donated to pro-life candidates.

During the debate, Caruso noted that current Mayor Eric Garcetti has “defunded” the police by $150 million; Bass was an early critic of the “defund the police” slogan and supported expanding the LAPD size.
The two candidates clashed over their homelessness policies and the ongoing bribery case at USC, where Bass was not the target of prosecution, where she received a $95,000 scholarship that she has been slow to file with Congress Report.
