The San Francisco 49ers may now be thanking the stars for not having an NFL trade involving Jimmy Garoppolo.

Most people know that the 30-year-old has been linked with several teams, but it seems that at least one NFL team has an insider — the Washington Commanders.

According to from ESPNWashington looms as a possible landing spot for the two-time Super Bowl champion.

However, that all evaporated after Garoppolo opted to undergo shoulder surgery.

Like most NFL teams, the commanders chose to look at other people.

Washington ultimately opted to sign Carson Wentz to replace the game.

While other NFL teams such as the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers were mentioned as potential trade partners, nothing came of it.

Instead, the Niners opted to restructure Garoppolo’s contract during training camp.

The Illinois native eventually settled for a $6.5 million fully secured deal that included a no-deal clause.

Garoppolo will officially become a free agent in 2023, at which point he can choose where he wants to play professional football next.

Also, most people know that keeping Garoppolo makes them a little concerned about their end, as they lose Trey Lance for the rest of the season after a foot injury.

Lance has undergone surgery and is currently recovering.

The young quarterback is not expected to return until the 2023 NFL season, although some claim he could technically return at the end of the current NFL regular season.

The decision will likely ensure that Lance returns with full force and avoids any further health-related issues.

With Garoppolo on board, it will be interesting to see how the 49ers’ season plays out.

Additionally, head coach Kyle Shanahan and the Niners may have to find a backup quarterback to help Garoppolo this season.

As mentioned in a previous report in the International Business Times, Shanahan will likely turn to guard Kyle Yuszczyk as a backup.

The 49ers may consider some notable players such as Cam Newton, Colin Kaepernick and Mike Glennon.
