When does the Andor series take place in the Star Wars timeline?

Andor is a prequel to Rogue One – but where exactly does the series take place in the Star Wars timeline? Thankfully, it’s easy to pinpoint because we know the exact year of the Disney Plus show: And it’s not too far from the events of the original Star Wars trilogy.
We’ve taken a deep dive into where Andor is on the Star Wars timeline and what it means for the show below.Don’t be afraid, there is No spoilers here, So whether you’ve seen the show or not, you can read our guide.
When did Andor in the Star Wars timeline happen?
To understand the Star Wars timeline, you need to know that the whole thing revolves around one big event: the Battle of Yavin, the mission to blow up the Death Star seen in A New Hope. That movie is set at 0 BBY, which is zero years before the Battle of Yavin — which is also the setting for Rogue One, because that movie ended before A New Hope began. Everything after the Death Star exploded was ABY, or after the Battle of Yavin.
Andor is set at 5 BBY, five years before Rogue One and A New Hope. Check out its location in the timeline below.
Andorra Timeline: What does this mean for the show?
We already know that Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera will appear in Andor, but it’s unclear if other Rogue One characters will appear. Cassian met most of the gangs in that movie for the first time, though, so it’s unlikely that someone like Jean-Erso would make a cameo. The one exception is K-2SO, Cassian’s best robot friend, but we already know he won’t appear in season 1.
Andor is set in the heyday of Imperial power, which means we might see Emperor Palpatine or even Darth Vader (he had a cameo in Rogue One, after all). It seems more likely, though, that we’ll see Bail Organa team up with Mon Mothma in Coruscant — we know from the cut-out scene from Revenge of the Sith that the two are working together to build what would eventually become the Rebel Alliance. If Bail plays, then there’s also a chance we’ll see a young Leia Organa, although after her role in Obi-Wan Kenobi, that probably won’t happen.
There are also a variety of major Star Wars characters in the galaxy at this time. Star Wars Rebels is set in the same period, so this opens the way for Ezra Bridger, Ahsoka Tano, and the rest of the Ghost crew to appear. However, given how solid Andorra is, the Force may not play a big role in the events that follow.
Of course, the biggest impact on the series from what we know about the Star Wars timeline is that we already know that Cassian will sacrifice himself for the Death Star project in Rogue One. However, how he did this is a complete mystery, so anything could happen in between.
