Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Was A “Major Victory” For Gearbox, “Future Experiences” Already In The Works

According to Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford, Borderlands spinoff Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was a “major win” that exceeded sales and key expectations.
speaking during studio boss Hugger’s annual general meeting todayaccording to reports VGC, Pitchford said, “Gearbox Software has scored a major win with Wonderlands,” which is becoming the studio’s “new franchise.” Future ‘experiences’ for the Wonderlands brand are in the works.
“Wonderlands shattered all of our target expectations, both critically and commercially, and I’m pleased to report that in addition to the great economic returns that will prevail over the next few quarters, we have established a solid beachhead ,”He says. “We obviously have a new franchise right now, and Gearbox is already developing future experiences.”
Unlike the mainline Borderlands series, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a highly fantasy game that Gearbox has been experimenting with since the Lord of the Rings games were released years ago. It stars Tiny Tina, voiced by Ashly Burch, with supporting cast including Will Arnett, Andy Samberg and Wanda Wanda Sykes.
At GameSpot, our Wonderlands review of Tiny Tina gave this fantasy game a 7/10. Reviewer Darryn Bonthuys said it didn’t reinvent the wheel of Borderlands, but rather a competent first-person shooter, although it was “fun but easy to forget”.
Gearbox was acquired by Embracer for over $1 billion in 2021. As part of the acquisition, Gearbox is getting funding, or “rocket fuel” as the company puts it, to “fuel Gearbox’s powerful creative engine.” Despite the buyout, 2K Games continued to publish the Borderlands franchise, including Wonderland.
