House Of The Dragon Is Averaging 29M Viewers Per Episode, Here’s How That Compares To Game Of Thrones

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon” has high ratings.according to type, the show now averages 29 million viewers per episode in the United States. This counts ratings for cable TV, HBO Max, and everywhere else where people can watch HBO content.

Forbes reports The original Game of Thrones drew an average of 9.3 million viewers per episode in its first season in 2011. Importantly, though, that was a decade ago when there was no HBO Max. George RR Martin has published a few A Song of Ice and Fire books, but the entire fantasy series is new to many and doesn’t have the cultural significance it has now due to the Game of Thrones show.

Game of Thrones finished its eighth and final season in 2019 with an average of 44 million viewers per episode. The spin-off series “House of the Dragon” has never performed as well as the main series. This is something series star Matt Smith has talked about before.

Smith, who played Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon, said Game of Thrones had a “cultural footprint” and became a “phenomenon.” He went on to say that it would be “impossible to replicate or rebuild”.

“All we can do is focus on the show we’re trying to make, and while it’s in the same world, hopefully it will grow and become something of its own,” Smith said. “It’s focused on a tighter group of people, and Game of Thrones is immediately broader in terms of story. It feels more like a family drama. It’s never going to recreate what Game of Thrones has. level of success because it couldn’t — it’s a totally original moment. But we tried to create something interesting in a similar way, but with a different identity. “

House of the Dragon premiered on August 21 and is now halfway through its first season. The next episode, which airs on September 25, will feature a 10-year time jump and new cast members will star as Rhaenyra and Allison.

HBO has already ordered a second season of Dragon House, but we don’t yet know when it will air.

The show is now competing with another high-profile fantasy series, Amazon Studios’ The Lord of the Rings: Ring of Power, which drew 25 million viewers in its first episode.
