House Democrats Kill Resolution to Investigate Hunter Biden

On Tuesday, House Democrats on the Oversight Committee voted against a Republican resolution that would order President Joe Biden’s administration to turn over documents about Hunter Biden’s business dealings.

The “investigative resolution” led by Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the top Republican on the Oversight Committee, would order the Biden administration to provide a trove of documents about the Biden family’s overseas business dealings, including those involving the president’s son Hunter.

While all 19 Republicans voted in favor of the resolution, 23 Democrats voted down the resolution after just two hours of debate, CNN reported.

“If Democrats vote against this resolution, they will continue to coordinate efforts to protect a potentially compromised president from necessary congressional oversight,” Comer said. “We have to figure out the Biden family’s international business plans to determine if there is a national security threat.”

Comer previously sent a letter Ask the U.S. Department of the Treasury for more information on Hunter’s and his business partners’ finances.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney, chair of the House Oversight Committee, called the resolution a “naked partisan effort” and accused Republicans of being “obsessed” with Hunter Biden.

The oversight committee proposed an investigation into the Biden family’s business dealings after reports that House Republicans were preparing to investigate Hunter Biden if they regained majority control of the House of Representatives after the November midterm elections.

“The House Oversight Committee has broad oversight powers under House rules,” said a Republican Oversight Committee aide Tell This Washington post“In the next Congress, Oversight Committee Republicans will continue to investigate the Biden family’s questionable business dealings, using the power of the gavel to seek answers for the American people.”
