The man behind Metal Gear Solid gives his take on the latest cyberpunk anime.
One of the most talked-about anime released this year is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Created by Trigger Studio (Kill La Kill, SSSS.Gridman), the series is set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe and follows original characters not featured in the 2020 title. The show has received critical acclaim, the series is currently rated at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and has become one of the most-watched animations on Netflix.
According to Steam Charts, the series has become so popular that Cyberpunk 2077 has seen an increase in player counts on PC, with a 550% increase in base player count.
But it’s not just critics or anime fans who fall in love with the new series. Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima recently praised the series. On Kojima’s official English-language Twitter account, he called it “a miracle that pulled the trigger on the world!”
Kojima even raved about art, and Trigger managed to create a world design that compared it to the OVA series Cyber OEDO 808 from the early 90s.
Kojima’s reaction to the series is very interesting, especially when you remember he had a cameo During the game, he is seen explaining his ideas for an upcoming project in a hotel bar.
