Destiny 2 PSA: You No Longer Have To Worry About That Tough Champion Quest Requirement

Bungie has removed the requirement to complete a difficult and time-consuming objective in this week’s Destiny 2 Season of Pillage story mission. The quest objective of “Defeat 50 Champions” will be auto-completed for players, making it much easier for them to advance the quest considerably.
Bungie announced the news on Twitter, saying the 50 Champion goal was too hard for some players. Judging by player feedback, this is indeed the case, as heroes are mostly found in premium content and in relatively small numbers. Even Lost Realms or Nightfall on Legendary difficulty contains only a handful of heroes, forcing players to do a lot of running to complete the requirements. Heroes are also harder to kill than regular enemies, and often require special seasonal weapon mods to defeat, increasing the skill barrier.
Since completion is too demanding for many players, we’ve auto-completed the “Beat the Champion” objective for this week’s Ship Thief’s Sails Season Mission.

The move is quite a big one, and not just because the goal is frustrating for many players, especially among the more casual fans of Destiny 2. This week’s story missions reveal a major revelation for Season of the Plunder’s plot, providing new information about the season’s main characters Mithrax and Eido, and advancing the game’s overall plot to Lightfall, the next expansion in February .
It seems that Bungie had premium seasonal content in mind when creating the 50 title requirements. Players quickly discovered that heroes killed during the Expedition Season event counted as three kills each, rather than one kill per kill. The problem is that in Expeditions, champions are few and far between — you might see three that work well and one or none that work badly.
The best way to complete the requirements is in the Master difficulty version of the Ketchcrash seasonal event, which is filled with champion enemies and counts each champion defeated as 8.50 champion requirements can be cleared in one Master Ketchcrash event, but more casual players will have difficulty as Master Ketchcrash can Very difficult. It has a very high 1,600 power rating and doesn’t offer team matchmaking, which means players need to find their own group of five other players to get involved.
By removing the requirement, players can more easily advance the current story of Destiny 2. The pirate-themed “Season of Plunder” is a lot lighter than the horror and turbulent “Season” of “Ghost,” but it still carries some heavy themes and high stakes, as revealed this week.
