Windows 11 2022 Update is now available, offering some New Features for PC GamersThe biggest additions are a new controller bar update for the Xbox Game Bar, as well as optimizations to the windowed game mode and new options for HDR calibration.
The Controller Bar is a new update that makes the Xbox Game Bar more controller-friendly, providing easy access to recently played games and the launcher. The new menu can be accessed by pressing the Xbox button on the connected controller.
The update also offers some graphical improvements for gamers. Windowed games running DirectX 10 and 11 will now benefit from features previously only available in full-screen mode, with “significantly improved display latency, automatic HDR, and variable refresh rate (VRR)”.
Gamers with HDR-enabled monitors will also be able to get more out of their technology, with a new HDR calibration app designed to “improve the color accuracy and consistency of HDR monitors.”
While these are the most significant changes in the new update, Xbox also pointed to some smaller improvements to gaming features, such as automatic HDR support, enhancements to DirectX12 Ultimate, and broader support for DirectStorage.
