FIFA 23 has already made a blunder this season, releasing a full month early for some players. Ted Lasso, the beloved coach from the Apple TV+ series of the same name, then briefly appeared in the game’s ratings database. Now we’ve got the official teaser, so it looks like he’s going to play really soon.
official Ted Russo The Twitter account shared an amusing image on Twitter showing what may be actor Jason Sudeikis with his back to the audience, but looking at a FIFA face-capturing device. Camera arrays have been used to capture portraits of players and coaches, and it looks like the fictional head of the AFC Richmond is getting the same treatment. The tweet humorously calls out Mario, which pretty much says Ted will be in FIFA 23. It will be interesting to see him post with the real football manager at this year’s game.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the name Lasso about joining the video game roster. A leaker claims that Ted Lasso will be coming to MultiVersus at some point in the future – although his show is on Apple TV+, Ted is indeed Warner Bros. property. He is one of many names on the list of leaked and data-mined roles of the crossover platform fighter. We’ll have to see which game appeals to him first: MultiVersus or FIFA 23.
Notably, FIFA 23 will be EA’s last game with the FIFA branding. Next year’s game will be named EA Sports FC (Football Club) because EA’s partnership with FIFA has ended. The announcement comes ahead of FIFA 23’s launch, making it the last early differentiation to bear the FIFA label. Fans of the series need not worry, though: EA plans to offer the same game modes and experiences as EA Sports FC.
