Cenobites makes a bloody return in Hulu’s Hellraiser, the 11th film in the horror franchise, with Sense8 star Jamie Clayton taking over the role of Pinhead, the franchise’s first female and first transgender actor. This update is said to stay true to its roots while offering a fresh take on its horrific source material.
The first new Hellraiser movie in four years, and after several false starts, the reboot of the iconic franchise finally hits Hulu on October 7. We’ve only seen images of Clayton as Pinhead, but finally, the first trailer is here to tell an all-too-familiar tale of pain and hellish joy.
This new chapter in the Hellraiser universe comes from David Bruckner, who also directed a segment from the original V/H/S as well as two stories from Shudder’s recent Creepshow revival. Hellraiser creator Clive Barker tried to make a new feature back in 2013 aimed at retelling the first film, but eventually, the studio released a sequel, Hellraiser: Judgement, in 2018.
Inspired by the success of the 2018 Halloween series reboot, Miramax Films has announced plans for an adaptation in a future Infernal Adventure movie. Bruckner was hired to direct in spring 2020 and co-wrote the screenplay with familiar collaborators Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski.
The cast also includes Odessa A’zion (Ghosts), Adam Faison (Grace and Frankie), Drew Starkey (Love, Simon), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), Goran Visnjic (Gotham) and Hiam Abbass (Blade Runner 2049).
